Mario has been in his current research nurse position on the Translational Research Unit for the past 30+ years. His co-workers acknowledge his commitment to teamwork and his dedication to excellent nursing.
Mario is constantly mastering the art of nursing even for the most simple of procedures like drawing blood. Countless patients thank him for his gentleness. Mario also serves as a role model for his peers. Those around him uniformly share how their nursing skills have improved because of Mario's teaching and guidance. Mario enjoys taking new nurses and nursing assistants to "show them the ropes."
With his gentle manner and humility, it is easy to approach him as well as to work with him. Mario is a much-needed resource when the unit is busy; he can easily identify those who may need help and is ready to assist. He takes pride in his work, and shares that with those around him. One of the co-workers exclaims how over the years "he taught me to take responsibility for our workplace to make it a nicer place to work."
Mario will be leaving a legacy after his retirement but before he does, we are glad that he will be honored as a DAISY Nurse for his dedication to nursing, to his colleagues, and to his patients.
He inspires those around him and is a role model for his co-workers and compassionate to his patients.
