It was a very difficult case with the expected mother in critical, unstable condition and the fetal demise. A C-section had been performed in the trauma room to deliver the infant whom the team was unable to save the infant's life. CPR had been performed on the infant in the trauma but unsuccessful and the infant was pronounced.
The mother was transferred to the TICU and aggressive care was performed on her. The very emotionally distressed family was escorted to TICU and the WP medical team moved the infant to the TICU to complete their protocols. This was very emotional and distressful day for the bedside nurse, charge nurse, and the entire team.
The charge nurse, Bethany Kelley, was consistently assisting and supporting the bedside nurse, Marisa Kreuzer. This was a very emotional case with the infant brought to the patient room and the mother on a ventilator and unstable. Both Bethany and Marisa were fighting to save the mother's life with the family at the bedside, the expired infant, the WP nurses in the room with all the equipment to provide aggressive care for this mother.
This situation and case would certainly put any nurse into moral distress. These two nurses did an amazing job under very a difficult and challenging time. These two nurses are amazing and will never forget this case. Bethany and Marisa provided excellent quality care for the patient and supported the family during this very emotional and distressing case.
