My grandma was admitted and after a week's care in the ICU, doctors determined he condition would likely not improve. We chose to move her to palliative care. Prior to her transition, Mark had told her if she was still in the ICU Monday, they would throw a party. Grandma mentioned she wanted to wait for reduced oxygen and transition until Mark was back so they could have a party. On Saturday Mark showed up at the hospital with ice cream for a party with my grandma on his day OFF work! He sat and visited with the family for an hour as well.

...

My grandmother was admitted to ICU and Mark was her admission nurse. He is compassionate and caring. Mark continued to be my grandma's nurse on the days he was there. My grandma loved him. He treated her like she was his grandmother and the days he was off she couldn't wait for him to come back. The most extraordinary thing though is that my grandma waited to have an ice cream party and he bought her favorite kinds of ice cream on his day off and we had a party. It ended up being a day she was in ICU. As a nurse and family of patient I appreciated knowing he was there caring for her when I wasn't. He has a special place in our hearts forever.
