Integrity: Marlin consistently portrays an example of a model employee, coworker, and nurse. He is assertive and eager to assist anyone in any way he can. When help is requested of him, you know he will complete the task properly as quickly as he can and he always does it with a smile!
Commitment: Marlin is wholeheartedly committed to his role as a servant to our Veterans, and is the epitome of the example of how a nurse should care for his/her patients. He consistently provides the best care he can, fulfilling our organization's goals as well.
Advocacy: Marlin is a respected resource while he inserts picc lines and any other responsibilities involving IV therapy. He looks at the Veteran's past medical history and the current medical issues, and really the whole picture, as he deems what interventions would be best for the Veteran.
Respect: Marlin is respectful to everyone he encounters. Even with challenging patients, he maintains a calm, passive, demeanor. If the Veteran is on the phone, or in the bathroom, he will come back to complete his task. Little things like that really allow our Veterans to feel respected, not rushed or forced into accepting any treatment. Marlin will explain every procedure that he is planning on doing to his patients, and this helps them to feel empowered and involved in their own care. Marlin is very respectful to fellow employees and does not engage in any way in any activity that would shed a negative light on our medical center.
Excellence: Marlin is extremely professional, consistently delivers the highest care, and truly cares for each person he encounters. He will also ask the Veteran if there's anything else they need before he leaves the room. On numerous occasions, I have witnessed him getting pajamas, juice, and other items our Veterans may request. He functions to really serve them, not just complete his task.
I am honored to call Marlin a coworker and could only hope to be an amazing nurse like he is to our Veterans! He will be missed by many coworkers when he retires in a few months.
