My son had a procedure in November and everything and everyone was great! I would, however, like to recognize Marti Hoekstra for going above and beyond for my little man! As a mother, sending your child to surgery itself is terrifying, but seeing him in recovery was horrifying to me! They took me back and he was asleep but they were having difficulty waking him, of course, I knew deep down he would be ok, but at that moment I was terrified! "What if he didn't wake up!" "What if he'd never be the same!" Marti, I believe saw that fear in my eyes. Mind you she wasn't even his nurse but took the time to "assess the situation" from her patient's bedside. She came over and we said our hellos (I do know her from working at the hospital) she then leaped into action and gently went over to my boy and softly spoke to him ever so sweetly. So she not only woke him but did it so gently and compassionately! She treated him like he was the only boy in the room, like a true VIP (remember, Marti is not his nurse). I cannot thank her enough and I am sure she doesn't even know/remember how much that meant to me, but I will never forget! I appreciate Marti for taking charge of the situation and helping one scared mother. The sad thing is, I think PACU nurses get overlooked (for good reason- Versed) but I want her to know her patients are very lucky to have her even if they don't remember! So thank you for taking care of my little boy even though you didn't have too! He is a thriving 3-year-old who still loves baseball (brought his glove with him to surgery).
