Mary Ann recognized the global impact of implementing the Kensington ASC Cataract Surgery Dropped Nucleus Protocol on not just the patient who required the protocol activation, but also the domino effect on all patients scheduled to follow. She volunteered to be the responsible nurse not only to coordinate the immediate family-surgeon conference but also to actively re-adjust the remaining surgical schedule and personally speak with waiting patients and their families to explain the unexpected delay. Mary Ann has provided invaluable insight to ensure the highest quality of patient nursing care at all stages of their operative experience. As one of our Lead Nurses in the OR, she always focuses on delivering the best care to our patients and always thinks of their safety and all her co-workers.
As her manager, I have witnessed Mary Ann being compassionate to our patients by holding their hands, sitting with them, and giving them hugs. I also witnessed her wrapping our patients in warm blankets. When her co-workers are having a tough time, Mary Ann is there to provide comfort and support. Mary Ann never complains about anything and never says no to anyone. During her break when her phone rings and they need help, she will immediately leave her lunch without hesitation to help her co-workers. Mary Ann does her work way above and beyond what is expected of her. Mary Ann is an inspiration to her colleagues and has been an excellent team leader.
