Mary Dao is an incredible and inspiring nurse. She is very knowledgeable, resourceful, and she provides patient care that goes beyond the expectations. Mary is also a rock to cling to and rely on in the raging storm of everyday ICU life. Many times in my career have I admired Mary's ability to be efficient, compassionate, brilliant and do it all with a smile on her face.
Mary Dao splits her time between Pediatrics and the Pediatric Intensive Care. She works, like many others, on balancing the flow between the two departments, assuring the children she cares for receive the appropriate level of care. Mary exhibits a high capacity for critical thinking that allows her to anticipate not only her current situation but the next actions that take place during high-stress moments.
Mary stays calm during critical admissions, which allows her to focus on the patient’s needs that can impact outcomes. She continually delivers a high level of care to her patients but also recognizes the enormous needs of the family dynamic that is impacted from a child’s hospitalization. Mary works 12-hour nights and is a steadfast pillar that staff and leadership can rely on to have the patient’s best interest while understanding how to stay efficient in our care. As the manager, I can appreciate Mary’s willingness to adopt and adapt to new workflows and minimize the impact of care at the bedside and maintain a positive attitude to always give high-quality care.
