Mary came on the second shift after I was checked in. She had more seriously ill patients on her list, but she afforded me her time to see that I was okay. When it was past the time for the White Team to give me antibiotics for my left leg cellulitis, Mary saw that there was none and called for a resident. That triggered the observation that most of my home medications and CPAP were not reordered to cover me during my current hospitalization. During her shift, Mary contacted the resident on duty to see me at my request and he responded right away. While handling her other patients, Mary repeatedly checked on the status of my request that the resident restored my home medications and CPAP for personal therapy. Between giving me my insulin and checking my vital signs, she checked my leg and agreed that it was swelling with an increase in warmth and redness. Her desire to care for her patients is quite obvious. That transferred to her actions, which allowed her to fulfill the mandate of the nursing order to make sure the health and welfare of the patient is paramount on the ward. Thank you Mary.
