It's difficult to choose one member from the wonderful staff at NWSH. From check-in to in-room care post-op, all are friendly, helpful, and professional.
My husband, B, just had his 2nd knee replacement, right knee this time, and faced this surgery more relaxed and confident. After this surgery, the usually docile B woke up in recovery with the attitude of a snarling, belligerent grizzly. He was going home. Now! I had gone to Coeur d'Alene to run an errand and I was called back as my husband was being "cantankerous." Then they led me to recovery, where he was, all I saw was 5 pair of legs behind the curtain. The growl was unmistakable. The grizzly was not happy.
I'm sure all in the medical profession face these times when some patients react in unexpected ways. This was my first time, however, to see my B so belligerent and determined to go home now! He was threatening to call the police, kept trying to disconnect his monitors, and was rather hateful because he wasn't getting his way.
This is the point at which Mason Varga, with his patience, and continued gentle reminders, set the example of calmness and kindness, that kept me calm, and ultimately helped us calm B. It took over an hour. Mason never faltered, never lost his cool, and made sure my husband and I understood what was happening. For that, and my peace of mind, I'd like to say a special thank-you to Mason.
