It is very hard for my husband and me to pick one story about Meagan for this award. Meagan represents everything that you hope for in a nurse and then she surpasses that. The first day that she was my nurse she took the time to talk to me and my husband and get familiar with me and my case. We went over the medications that she had for me and then explained how my medication for pain worked. She asked if I had questions about it and I did and in 2 years of being in hospitals and receiving the same medication, she was able to explain it to me in a way I never had heard before. This was very empowering and she always made me feel like I was an active part of my own care.
Every time that my husband or I would have a question she always took the time to answer them and/or provide educational material for us. This was so amazing to us because until we came to your hospital no one had ever done that. Meagan would work out goals with me and then teach me how to obtain them. One of my favorite things about Meagan was when my pain would get worse and she would give me my shot she wouldn't tell me to breathe because I couldn't, she would just talk to me while giving it or tell me a short story. This was always comforting and took my mind somewhere else.
One more story, I had been in your hospital for 8 days and started in the ER then was admitted to the surgical floor then moved to B4. I went through 2 roommates and I was always in bed A. Meagan found this out and when my roommate was discharged she organized my move to bed B. This was amazing to me because I had not seen the sun in 8 days! This might be a small thing for some people but now I got to see the sky and colors in the morning and enjoy the sunlight during the day. This was huge for me and I could not thank her enough.
Meagan is such a blessing and gift to her patients and your hospital.
