I commend Megan Anderson, RN, the Hepatitis C Nurse Coordinator at Sanford Health Fargo. I am a drug addict in recovery, and have been living with the Hepatitis C Virus for about 6 years now. I started looking into Hepatitis C treatments last spring, as recommended by my primary physician. I'll never forget the day I met with my doctor for the first time, and he had sent Megan in to do some paperwork with me, as well as give me a run-down of what to expect in the weeks and months to come. A huge wave of relief came over me as Megan said, "You deserve this treatment, and we are going to help you." At that moment, I decided it was finally time to let go of the guilt, shame, and embarrassment I still clung to for the poor decisions I have made which have led me to being infected with Hepatitis C. I feel like Megan has really taken the time to get to know me. This process has consisted of a lot of testing (ultrasound, MRI, liver scan, and a significant amount of lab work), as well as a few months of working with my insurance company to convince them of how much I need this. Megan has done such an amazing job keeping me posted on whether or not any progress has been made. Every time we talked, Megan asked "How's life?" and "How's the baby?" Her daughter is only months older than my baby.
Ever since I met Megan, I have felt like it is her personal mission to help save my life. Her efforts must be recognized. As I write this letter, I am halfway through Epclusa treatment for Hepatitis C, and am very optimistic. And even if the treatment is not effective, I will forever feel blessed for having worked with such an amazing medical team.
Megan and my doctor have made a huge difference for me by improving my quality of life, and thus, providing hopes for a better future for my daughter and me.
