Recently, after exhibiting sudden left sided weakness and slurred speech, the most interesting and extraordinary individual I've ever known became a patient in our hospital. My dad. In just a matter of minutes, life had changed for him and for my family.
While there were many people who gave my dad great care during his visit, there was one nurse who made a lasting impression on my parents - Mindy. In my dad's words, "Mindy was honest, personable, genuinely concerned, and an all-around great nurse. She treated us like we were her family." He said, "I could tell she knew her stuff. Her confidence made me feel safe." Mindy was only with him for 2 shifts, but in that short time, made a real difference in the life of my parents and reminded me again why I'm proud to be a nurse.
