It was a stressful night, but wonderful teamwork made it work. All units were full, and there were seven patients in the already full Emergency Department that needed to be admitted. The hospitalist entered the orders into Soarian and MAK.

Melissa Gauthier and Chelsea Barker, from 4 East, finished their shifts at 11PM then came to the ED from 11PM-2:15AM. These two nurses helped care for the seven patients and did admission paperwork on some of them. They showed the ED staff how to print up medication sheets in MAK and how to sign into Soarian. The ED staff were very receptive and positive about the learning experience. The ED nurses tag teamed with the 4 East nurses in caring for the patients. At 2:15 AM, when the 4 East nurses left the ED, the ED nurses assumed care of the patients. Without the smooth teamwork and positive attitudes, I don't believe that this situation would have worked.
