Melissa is the epitome of how a great nurse should be. I always see her working hard to provide extraordinary care for our patients. Melissa is gentle, kind, and always has a reassuring word for our patients to help make their experience better. Melissa has the patience of an angel when it comes to handling difficult situations. On one instance, a patient was due to have a procedure in the ED. The provider asked the assigned nurse to go in with him as there had to be a female nurse present during the procedure. The assigned nurse was questioning why she had to be there and asked if he couldn't just do the procedure with the interpreter in the room. Melissa immediately and with no hesitation, volunteered to assist the provider. She dropped what she was doing and prepared the tools needed for the procedure. During the entire process, Melissa held the patient's hand and reassured her that she was doing great by cooperating with the provider. This helped the patient's experience to be less stressful and less painful than what it could have been. The patient was so grateful and indicated that her experience was not as bad as she thought it would be. I was amazed at the professionalism and caring displayed by Melissa during this encounter.
