This summer Michael cared for a patient in the ED who came in for swelling in his lower extremities. The patient was homeless and had a history of ETOH abuse and Bipolar Disorder. The patient was treated in the Emergency Room and was offered a shower by Michael. Upon discharge, Michael took the time to locate new clothes for the patient. He located an outfit in our donation clothing boxes but did not locate any shoes for the patient. Upon realizing the patient did not have shoes to be discharged with Michael went and retrieved his own shoes from his car and gave them to the patient. He set this patient up to feel better both physically and mentally and really showed compassion in his generosity to the patient.
Michael is an exceptional nurse who really lives the mission here at SSM. He does not do it for recognition for himself, but he does it for the simple fact that it is the right thing to do. He offered a lot more than shoes to this man, he offered him care, respect, compassion, and support. It is an honor to watch him put the mission into action in his daily work. Thank you, Michael, for all you do for our patients.
