Telling this story brings tears to my eyes when thinking back how supportive this nurse was to me and my family. My son was the 12th pregnancy for me, but only the 4th live birth. I had gone into labor at 28 weeks and was sent to UM from Jackson, 35 minutes from home and my 3 teens.
Though most of the nurses have been nice, Michelle went above and beyond! I do not know how I would have made it through the first couple days had it not been for her. She included me in everything; talked to me, supported me and never let me feel like I was alone. I felt like my baby was in good hands when Michelle was around, and everything was going to be ok.
When a monitor went off, she was right there explaining what was going on and answered every question I had, even if it was the same question I had asked an hour ago. It was not hard to know what could have gone wrong while the baby was in the NICU. I am in my late 30's and have had to bury 5 children because of them being born too soon, and this was my last chance to have children.
Being in the NICU and not knowing what was going to happen with the baby caused me to have unexplainable emotions. But to have Michelle make me feel like everything was going to work out, and that it was ok to sleep because she was there, shows the extraordinary care and concern that she provides. She is an amazing nurse and deserves this award. Michelle will forever have a place in our hearts.
