I have been an employee off and on for 20 years of my 30 years of nursing. My parents have been frequent patients in our facility. I wanted to take the time to give positive comments on the care my father received. He was diagnosed with multiple coronary artery blockages and required bypass surgery. He spent much time in the CVICU. He received such good care everywhere he went but I wanted to point out Mike Seiler.
It was a difficult time for all involved. Mike did such a great job communicating with me and assisting our whole family with this very serious health condition. He went above and beyond for my father and our family. My dad died early in December and Mike was the nurse on the Code Blue Team. He had become quite familiar with my dad and our family. I received two phone calls during the code asking if he had become a DNR. During one of these phone calls, Mike got on the phone with me to explain the situation. He knew my family's wishes, as we had spent much time discussing this topic while my father was in the CVICU. It brought me so much comfort to know that at the end, Mike was there for my father and me. I can't explain how difficult it was to get that phone call but to know that Mike was there continuing to care for my dad brought my mom and me so much relief and comfort.
Mike is an exceptional man and nurse filled with compassion, humor, professionalism, and care. He demonstrates the Mission of our hospital. I respect him both professionally and personally and I wanted it to be documented. So many times in our profession, we do our best and give so much for our patient. We don't ask for recognition but when it is given, it brings encouragement beyond words. I wanted to extend that encouragement to Mike.
