An unfortunate chain of clinical events led my dad to cardiac distress. Mike quickly recognized the situation and initiated the proper team. Within minutes, his room was flooded with 20+ healthcare providers and even a short stay in ICU. What my dad remembers from all of it was Mike's composure and confidence in such a critical situation.
Before we left, my dad insisted on shaking Mike's hand to tell him thank you; a thank you for saving his life. He is the epitome of a patient advocate and problem solver.
Stephanie (Mike's orientee) went above and beyond after the situation to follow up with us and make sure he was ok. First sign of a compassionate nurse is concern for their patient's outcome even when no longer in their care.
Good nurses become extraordinary when they learn from the best; Stephanie's nursing career is bright because she has the privilege of learning/shadowing from Mike, a clinically astute, compassionate nurse!
