Mirjana is the epitome of everything I feel a nurse should be. She embodies nursing with her professionalism, but she lives and breathes the sympathetic side. From the start Mirjana was kind to me. She spoke to me, not at me. She asked my opinion about everything and discussed what I wanted from my healthcare. I always felt I was part of my care which gave me more confidence that I was going to be able to heal and not just be treated. She was always attentive and punctual. And despite my times of impatience, she never got upset or short with me. In fact, she would often make jokes about it just to make me laugh.
Probably the biggest thing she did was toward the end of my stay. There was one incident when a "Hospitalist" came in. And having not seen me prior, decided she was going to change nearly every medication, push for my discharge even though the GI did not want to, and basically upend my care for no reason at all. The doctor eventually changed her mind after speaking with the GI. But by that point, I was obviously upset. And my medical condition is extremely volatile with relation to my stress level. So almost immediately, I was very sick. Mirjana must have had a sixth sense or something because not long after this happened, she came in the room to check on me. She could see I was shaken and in a lot of pain. She told me she had talked to the doctor and that she wouldn't let anything happen if she could. She stood up for me. And then she stayed with me until my next pain medication was due to make sure I had calmed down and was feeling better. Her act of compassion meant more to me than anything anyone could have done. Thank you Mirjana!
