I was admitted to her unit after the ER discovered I had numerous gallstones and an inflamed gallbladder. All I knew was the excruciating pain after surgery. When I met my nurse, I could see her assessing me and could tell that she knew exactly what to do. With a no-nonsense attitude, (trust me, I can be a baby when in pain), she introduced herself and her assistant and made my first few hours so comfortable by assessing my needs ahead of time, not being judgmental if I asked for a pain med and most important, checking on me as much as she could. She had me actually laughing and teasing her in the midst of the post-surgical discomfort. Even my cynical husband told me to fill out a card complimenting her. I know how busy it can be for nurses, so to just take the time to know who I am beyond the patient in this room, helped me have a positive attitude which is so important in the healing process. I'm certain I'm not the only patient that has experienced her amazingness.
