... When I started my journey through chemo, I had no idea what to expect. I was nervous about the infusion part itself and scared of the unknown afterwards. Nancy Hampton-Jones came to my rescue. Not only did she talk to me about what was happening during my infusion and let me know what each drug was and what it was for, but she was there for me when I needed her most which is during those days following treatment. She either called me or emailed during those dark days following each and every chemo to see how I was doing and to see if I needed anything.

After one treatment in particular, I was having a very rough time. She had sent me an email to see how I was doing. I had replied telling her that I wasn't doing so well and that I was having some problems with my mouth. She asked me if I had "Magic Mouthwash." I did not, so I questioned her about what it was. Within 45 minutes she called me and said that she had called my Oncologist and talked to them about what was going on and asked them to call in a prescription for me, which they did. To me this is going above and beyond her normal duties and to take the time to call them for me, knowing that I didn't feel so well, meant the world to me.

On another occasion, knowing that my taste buds had not recovered she made me a batch of "The Cookie" and let me tell you, not only were they delicious and I could taste them but they made my day. Because of chemo I have a lot of trouble remembering things. Nancy got me an assortment of sticky pads, notepads and ink pens so that I can write things down and keep track of what is going on.

She and I have become quite close during this process and I know I can talk to her about anything that is going on and she will let me know either what I need to do or tell me who to call. She is more than a professional, but most of all she has a huge heart and cares deeply about her patients and their outcomes. I don't think that my experience during chemo would have gone quite as smoothly without the friendship that I have gained from Nancy.
