“Neil is a compassionate, intelligent and devoted nurse. I think that he deserves the DAISY Award because he exhibits dedication to his patients, his team and to Jefferson every day. Neil has been in the OR at Jefferson since he graduated nursing school in 2007. He immediately joined the Cardiac & Heart Transplant Team because cardiac surgery was so intriguing to him. Since he has been at Jefferson, he has done many things to better himself, his patients, and his other team members. For example, he was one of the few people selected by his supervisor and new robotic heart surgeon to fly out to Cleveland Clinic in the fall of 2011 to be trained specifically in robotic mitral valve repair surgery.

“Upon his arrival back at Jefferson, he collaborated with the surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other staff to develop and implement the Robotic Mitral Valve Surgery Program at our Hospital. The first Robotic MVR at Jeff was featured on NBC news, as it was one of the first done in our region. Neil is the primary scrub nurse for the majority of the Robotic MVR surgeries performed here. He is an integral part of the team that successfully helps all the patients having this surgery at Jefferson.

“Neil was also part of the OR Team that performed the Heart Transplant on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Neil was scrubbed for the majority of that case, and he couldn't have been happier to be a part of his patient's wonderful gift, a new heart, especially on Christmas morning!”
