Recently, my son was admitted to the pediatrics unit. He had RSV and wasn't eating, couldn't breathe and was dehydrated. My son is 3 months old. He was working so hard to breathe. He was put on IV fluids, oxygen, a feeding tube, and was monitored very closely. Doctorsthoughthe was going to wind up in the PICU. The first night I was there staying with my son. Nicki was my son's nurse. She made me feel at ease. Walking me through everything, talking to me, taking extra time and helping my son. She was wonderful at communicating with my family and me, especially with a feeding tube being put in a 3-month-old. We had her for the next couple of nights and the level of care never changed. She still took the time to make sure my son was well taken care of. She cared for my son like her own child. She was very comforting to me, his father, and all of our family. It takes a special person to work with children and their families. You have to work hand in hand. She alwayslistenedto what I had to say and worked with me on everythingwhen it came to my son's health care. Nicki is a special person, nurse, and so much more to help my son, and all of us through this scary issue. She made us feel like we were her only patients and never rushed. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Nicki was a great blessing and a true Godsend in our greatest fear and time of need. She was an answer to our family's prayers.
