... my family was rocked by the news that my uncle had been admitted to DCH in Tuscaloosa, AL. They are from Brookhaven, MS and were heading out on vacation to North Carolina when he began having chest pains. My aunt raced to the nearest hospital and upon entering my uncle coded in the emergency room with a heart attack. They immediately rushed him into the operating room and quickly repaired the blockage. He was then sent to the ACCU for further care and treatment. His family, including me, made the 4 hour drive to be by his side. When we arrived, I was immediately overwhelmed with the hospitality we received from the doctors, nurses, and staff at DCH. They explained in great detail the severity of the situation and the treatment they had in place.

Being that we are 4 hours from home and not from the area we were completely taken back with the unknown of where we were and the reputation of the hospital and staff. We questioned if DCH is where we should be, but our fears quickly turned to hope as we got acquainted with DCH and all they have to offer.

His nurse in ACCU was Nicole Adams and words cannot describe the love and support she gave to our family. She went over and beyond her duties to reassure and keep us informed of everything that was going on. She was always right there at the door watching over my uncle and providing all care possible for his recovery. But not only did she watch over her patient she took care of each of our needs and concerns. She directed us to the medical towers so we could all get rooms and be able to stay right there at the hospital. She ALWAYS reminded us when it was time for us to get some rest or eat. She was not only a nurse, she opened her heart to us as if we were her on family.

My uncle has had some setbacks and remains at DCH in ACCU for now but without a doubt we know God placed our family at DCH for a reason and we know he's getting the best care and medical treatment possible along with the care and support from all the staff at DCH for our family while we are there. Thanks again to everyone at DCH that had a hand in saving my uncle's life and for making my family a part of the DCH family. And a special thanks to Nicole for being there to lift my family up when we needed it most. I was able to give her an angel before she left on Sunday that read "My guardian angel" because in my eyes she was our saving angel.

We love DCH and all they do for their patients and for their families. Thank you again for everything.
