Nicole went above and beyond the call of duty when the patient she had just discharged from CMC-University Maternity Center broke down in tears waiting for her ride to pick her up. The patient had just moved to Charlotte and was living in an apartment with 3 other people. She had no family close by with the exception of an aunt, whom she had just met since her move. During her stay here at CMC-University, the patient bonded with and cared for her baby as any mother would, never mentioning to any staff members the social situation she was in.
The baby was discharged from the unit with the mother, as usual but was placed in the aunt’s car by the patient because she did not have the resources to care for the baby. The patient broke down in tears when the aunt drove away because she was not sure when she would see her baby again. Nicole has such an empathetic response, she contacted the Florence Crittenton house but learned the patient was beyond the age they would accept. Nicole then contacted CMC social worker to see if anything could be done to help this patient, even though she was discharged and technically no longer a patient of ours. They contacted DSS to assist with the patients needs and help to reunite this mother with her baby. Nicole then called the patient at home to let her know DSS would be contacting her to help her.
Nicole is a great asset to the CMC system. It is a privilege to work with her.
