"Nicole and the rest of the ED staff went above and beyond for my family during one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives," said the woman who recognized her — also a nurse and the niece of a patient who was brought to the ED in cardiac arrest.
The woman's uncle collapsed after complaining of chest pains during a family event. Once the ambulance arrived, she called the Beverly Hospital ED to alert them of his pending arrival. Nicole was in charge that night. The niece called again after the patient went into cardiac arrest and was resuscitated in the ambulance. "Nicole handled the entire situation with a calmness and sense of urgency that I only aspire to have in the future," she said.
Noting that her uncle was in the catheterization laboratory before she even made it to the hospital, the niece shared that Nicole was about to leave the hospital — about two hours after her shift had ended — but stayed to help when she heard a Code Blue called in the catheterization lab. "Within ten minutes or so, Nicole came around the corner to update us," her nominator said. "She went above and beyond the call of duty before heading home that night, and my family and I will be eternally grateful. Without Nicole and the rest of the outstanding EMS, Beverly Hospital and Lahey Burlington team, my uncle most likely wouldn't be here today, and saying 'thank you' will never be enough."
