Paige embodies the super-human nurse that takes care of the most difficult patients on the floor and continues to be a positive and compassionate role model for others. She is a relatively new nurse, which makes her even more amazing to have made such an impact on our unit.
For example, Paige has been a primary nurse caring for two families on the unit who have difficult medical and psycho/social issues. In one shift she had to have difficult conversations with the provider, collaborate with other team members to help facilitate the communication of non-ideal information to the family, set up a safe-team consult, and provide the routine medical nursing cares for that patient. She did this while also coordinating 3 BARTS, security escort of the mother of her other patient, all while helping that patient cope through his suicidal thoughts. This is a lot to handle on one shift, and even our most experienced nurses would likely be frazzled! When I brought her a pumpkin cookie, because I know she hadn't eaten and I wanted to check in on her, her response was "I feel like the luckiest person right now because everyone keeps bringing me treats!" That is Paige to a tee. She balanced delivering exceptionalfamily-centered care and the utmost in customer service to a point that the average person would have nothing left in them, yet she thought she was the lucky one. We are the lucky ones to have Paige on our team.
Paige also embodies our CHCO mission of community outreach. Next year, Paige will be leading a group of students in Haiti to help foster their nursing education at a clinic and help with relief work. It is impressive that being a newer nurse, she is already identified as a mentor and chosen to lead this group. Not to mention the fact that her compassion has no boundaries and she is ready to spread her knowledge and care abroad to communities in need. She is one of the most selfless and kind people I've ever met. Being a nurse is something that comes naturally to Paige, she was born to take care of others.
Families often rave about Paige and request to have her back as their nurse. We have a family appreciation system where they can write notes about the team members that have impacted them, and I swear sometimes Paige has a quarter of the kudos on the board because of the way she genuinely connects with her patients and families. I am in awe of Paige and humbled to work with her every day. Paige is a true DAISY Nurse.
