I'm actually preparing and mailing this nomination on the 1st anniversary of my grandmother's passing; five months shy of her 100th birthday. My grandmother was admitted to RMC and I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan and due to the distance, I was unable to get down to Kansas City immediately. While making arrangements to travel to Kansas City I called the hospital each day my grandmother was a patient. Thanks to the kindness of Pat, for three evenings, I was able to talk to my grandmother (she couldn't respond but was able to hear my voice). She was so kind and gracious. Each evening when I called, she would coordinate with me a callback time when she could be available to be in my grandmother's room and arrange to put the phone to my grandmother's ear so she could hear my voice. I can't tell you how much I appreciate her going above and beyond her responsibilities to accommodate my request. Her kindness and encouraging words meant so much to me. I loved my grandmother so much, she was so important in my life. I miss her dearly but will always remember having the opportunity for her to hear my voice during her final days here on earth thanks to the kindness of Nurse Pat. "Grief is as unique as a snowflake; conforms to no timetable or societal expectation. It is unique to each individual suffering through it." Pat is so deserving of this recognition.
