Pat works in the ICU - I do not know her very well but when I enter the ICU and she sees me, she always stops and says, "Are you alright, what do you need?" Pat helped me correctly use a PICC line to measure CVP pressures, a new skill that was new to our unit. Pat came by the next day to make sure we were "ok" with this and gladly helped me again to make sure I was performing the task correctly. Today I needed help inserting a coude catheter for a patient who was unable to void and becoming more distressed. Pat was happy to come over and successfully insert the coude catheter. Pat was amazing with the patient from start to finish. She was calm, explained the procedure to the patient and he immediately felt relaxed. It is amazing to watch Pat work with patients and staff, she exudes gentle confidence, experience and skill. The patient asked if she would be back the next day to check on him and remove the catheter as he was very pleased with her great care and teaching.
