Pat was nominated by her Director, Shari Riley for an encounter with an elderly woman while working in ED.

"Pat went way above and beyond on behalf of an elderly patient found in an incredibly severe state of neglect in a home without heat. This woman presented to the ED via EMS in a debilitated state and not bathing in months. Pat spent over 2 hours bathing this patient, cleaning her wounds, washing her matted hair, and giving her a haircut. After Pat finished bathing this woman, she helped her into a clean gown, clean bedding, and warm blankets. After all this, the patient then told Pat as she curled herself up into ball, she just wanted to sleep now.

Not only did Pat provide this woman the much needed physical care, she also gave her love. I nominate Pat for the DAISY Award not only for the care she provided to this patient, but also despite the cost to herself, or the perception of others, regarding her decision. Pat always stands up for our patients, and over the past 4-5 years has provided much care and compassion to all she cares for. Pat works hard from the moment she arrives until the last minute of her shift and she is an excellent clinician resource for younger nurses. Pat takes great pride in caring for her patients and she continues to put the patient above self - she truly has a nurse's heart."
