Paula was nominated by one of her patients: “I am an acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) patient and have been at St. Vincent on and off for four treatments. Paula made me feel loved, comfortable, safe, and secure on one of the most horrible days of my life. Paula has taken care of me many times over the 41 days of hospitalization and she consistently met all of the criteria for a DAISY nurse including becoming chemotherapy certified. Being a younger nurse, she is vibrant and full of energy which is beneficial for patients like myself that need to be reminded that life is not over for us! She is positive and uplifting, she makes you forget you’re even in a hospital! Nurses make a huge difference at St. Vincent. They have made a huge difference in my life and my survival. I am grateful to be here. Paula is a blessing!”
Paula received her RN license in January 2012, and is a former RN Resident from the June 2011 class. While in nursing school Paula wrote a paper about the DAISY award and made it a personal goal that within a year of being a nurse, she was going to make a difference in someone’s life and she would receive the DAISY award.
