Miss Priya is just one of the CCU staff nurses who go above and beyond the call of her duty. What catches my attention is her sense of responsibility and sense of initiative. She does not wait to be asked to help her colleagues. She is always ready to lend a helping hand on occasions that the unit is in a severe shortage of staff or charge nurse. She does not ask why such a job was given to her. She always tries to give her best to complete her job on time.
I have observed her many times when she is on my shift. She never leaves her patient without endorsing properly to her colleagues at a time when she needs to take her break. She explains to the best of her ability the procedures being done to her patients. Like many staff at CCU, she always asks her patients whether they need something like hot tea or asks her patient to inform her immediately should she/he feel even a slight pain.
She is utilized as an interpreter by her colleagues to Indian speaking patients. She helps in mentoring newly hired staff and always uses a calm voice to both patients and her colleagues.
I worked with her when CCU was short a charge nurse. To my relief, I did not have to teach her what to do. Being a keen observant of the tasks of CN especially during the night shift, she did the job like a pro, ensuring that all items and medical supplies were available for the night shift. She would check and ensure that all medications were available for all CCU patients, do random rounds when I was doing the 24 hours census, went to General Pharmacy to take admission patient medications, and always remained calm. We still managed to joke around even accepting 7-10 admission within the 12-hour shift. She never loses her cool which is a good trait.
For the past 12 years, she maintains her good rapport with colleagues at CCU. She remains compassionate and caring to her patients ensuring their safety in her care. She makes sure that her patient is safe and receives the best care they deserve. She is one of the best responders during the code blue time and one of the best hagglers for non-eligible patients during the Business Center Fulus computation prior to their discharge.
Despite being at CCU for the past 12 years, I never observed her having that kind of air being a senior; she makes sure that everyone feels at ease especially when she is being fixed as a preceptor to a new hire. She treats everyone with calm and comfort and with compassion.
I am thankful for her during those days that I worked with her as my second charge nurse. She makes work easier. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
