What stands out most about Rachel is her work ethic, her ability to manage complex patients with intricate education needs and her willingness to increase her involvement in the unit's quality improvement initiatives. Not only is she part of West 11's Partnership Council, but she is also the unit Falls Champion and has done a great job advocating for the falls bundle compliance. This position has allowed her to make a great impact on the unit, due to the high fall risk nature of West 11's patient population. Rachel also recently earned her certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse and is a REACH bronze level recipient.
Rachel has cared for some of the most medically and socially complex patients West 11 has ever seen, and she has handled them calmly and professionally, always advocating for the best interest of the patient and family. She is a wonderful collaborator and is highly respected by the multidisciplinary team. She asks thoughtful questions and her opinions are taken seriously.
Rachel has a very compassionate spirit, evidenced by her style of communication not only with families, but also with fellow staff members. She has a great skill for teaching, often precepting nursing students and new staff, and she is looked to by her peers for her calm demeanor and positive attitude. She is a great resource on West 11 and acts as an effective charge nurse as well. One of her peers noted, "She is dedicated not only to her patients, but to her entire team." Patients and their families also recognize Rachel's hard work and dedication, describing her as friendly, knowledgeable and a great listener. One family stated,
"Rachel really went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and confident about my care."
Rachel embodies what it means to be a DAISY nurse on a daily basis.
