Rachel demonstrated exceptional professionalism, active listening, and caring during my father's stay on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit. She was acting as the charge nurse the first-day shift after my father was transferred out of CVICU. Rachel went above and beyond in her caring and concern for my father's wellbeing and safety by following through on a safety issue with kindness and compassion and even showed continued interest in his wellbeing days after. Rachel actively showed her extraordinary caring and sense of how to bring comfort with her presence, by sitting with us in my father's room during a demonstration to students of setting up an external pacemaker. Rachel's caring concern and active listening positively impacted my father's stay. She made a difference in the days after by affirming my father's safety concerns were valid and assuring safety measures were in place to protect him and others in the future. Rachel made a difference through her understanding, active listening, and follow-up, which all positively impacted my father's recovery.
