Rachel assumed the position of Epilepsy Nurse Coordinator at the University of Kentucky six years ago. She is an absolutely amazing individual and nurse. She will always help a colleague in need, for instance with drawing blood, making phone calls, changing bed sheets, changing dressings to helping epilepsy surgery patients (while none of these are in her current job description). She has made herself available at all times (including after hours) to the treating team and to patients, via pager, email, and cell phone. Through her tireless work, Rachel strives to raise epilepsy awareness and improve the quality of life of those living with epilepsy and their families. She identified gaps in the knowledge and management of seizures among her peers at the University of Kentucky. Since this discovery, she has been providing invaluable and much needed epilepsy education to the nurses (frequently after hours). She supported patients and their families in forming the Central Kentucky Epilepsy Network. She facilities a monthly (after hours) epilepsy support group. Patients and their caretakers respect and adore her. She has inspired them to never give up! Her enthusiasm, altruism, dedication to patients, their families and to the profession will leave a durable legacy.
