Rachel exemplifies what it means to provide extraordinary holistic care. She touched my heart one night with her generosity and care as she cared for a couple who had just been in a car accident. Late one evening we received a call that we had a husband and wife inbound after a motor vehicle accident. The husband had had a heart attack while driving and lost control of his vehicle. The commotion began prepping the husband for the cath lab when we realized he was having a STEMI.
The wife stood by holding his hand and refused to be looked at until she knew her husband was safe. Rachel stood by her side explaining everything that was happening along the way. Prior to taking her husband to our cath lab, Rachel looked down to see the woman's coat had been torn and covered with blood and she was missing a shoe. Rachel got the wife a chair next to her husband where she could hold his hand prior to leaving for the cardiac cath lab. She left the room briefly and when she returned, she had an extra pair of her own shoes and her own jacket that she gave to the wife. She gave the clothes off her own back to ensure her patients felt the warmth and love of the nursing care she provides. It was truly touching and to me captured the true essence of the care we provide here at Providence.
