My wife was admitted to the hospital with an abdominal abscess that formed from surgery she had earlier. Monday night and Tuesday morning she was showing some improvement in her pain level and was becoming more alert. Tuesday afternoon and evening she started falling back and I pointed it out to both doctors and nurses who said it was just the abscess. Randy came on duty at 7:00 p.m. and I began telling him about it. He listened to us instead of just assuming it was all the abscess. He called a doctor and blood tests were done to find out that she had low potassium and other issues. Randy stayed in her room for three hours giving her blood and medications. He showed utmost compassion and desire to get her through the night and on the way to recovering. He came back the next day and visited us in ICU to make sure she was doing alright. I feel that Randy went above and beyond to make her well. My wife writes:

"Randy stayed by my side for five hours giving me blood and being supportive, reassuring me and my husband that I would be OK. He was wonderful, devoted and the best. During my worst time he was my shining angel. His care was the best. He made me very calm and he showed me great compassion and care. Thanks to him for his wonderful care. He is the best".

...

I had a very large hematoma and swelling of my legs. Randy was polite and courteous to me as well as my roommate. He is a very dedicated and professional RN and my experience would not have been as great if it wasn't for this nurse's actions and his way of making me smile.

...

Randy, you are the best there is so thank you for making me smile at a time when it was hard for me to do so. Keep up the good work!! You deserve this award hands down. Thank you.
