If you find yourself on the Detox Unit at Southwood Interventions, there is a good chance you will hear the voice of this nurse singing to lyrics of hymns such as " How great is God and all will see how great is our God". I have been very fortunate to work with many excellent nurses in my nursing career, but Renee Fields is a different category of nurse altogether. She exemplifies compassion and empathy in the most professional manner I have witnessed. For this reason it is a true honor to be presenting Renee Fields with our first DAISY Award in the Abraxas system.

On any given Monday, Mrs. Fields will do anywhere from 7-10 admissions, respond to sick calls, assist the medical doctor, administer the first doses of methadone, refer patients out, and still take the time to listen to her patients vent about their struggles with their addiction. I specifically recall Mrs. Fields telling me one day after convincing a patient not to leave AMA, "... that patient is suffering it must be true torture to have to face his reality now without the assistance of drugs".

Sometimes as nurses, we do not see in ourselves how the care we provide affects our patient's lives because we are so busy trying to make it through the challenging day.

Mrs. Fields, on behave of administration and the team here at Southwood Interventions, I am here to tell you that we see the excellent care you provide and we would like to say thank you for all that you do. Please accept the honor of this DAISY Award.
