I've been a patient at St. Francis numerous times and for very long periods of hospitalizations. I've also been a patient and many other hospitals. I've had the privilege, pleasure and gratitude of receiving outstanding medical care. In short, I speak from firsthand experience with nursing care.
This letter of commendation and appreciation is long overdue. Several years ago, my mother was lovingly cared for by Mrs. Rita Svoboda RN. Mother was hospitalized for her recurrent and progressive heart failure. Rita connected to her in compassionate and empathetic ways. Namely, she was a cheerful communicator and an active listener. In spite of her serious illness, Rita sought-out Mother's passions in life- young children. She shared the joy of her own family, and on a day off from nursing, she trekked to the hospital with her child for a social visit. This is an example of true selflessness!
A few months after Mother's death, I was hospitalized and transferred to St. Francis IRU. Rita apparently noted my name on the hospital admission list and came to my room with a Willow Tree sculpture. The enclosure said, "May your memories bring you peace." The meaningful sentiment will always be a visual sign and a lasting treasure of Rita's care.
I too have been a patient under Rita's care with several hospitalizations. I experienced her emotional and intellectual intelligence for numerous days. She's detail-oriented, and her care was focused on my comfort and recovery, and never sensed her exuding a feeling of being rushed with my care. I was valued and important, worthy of her time and energy!
Fast forward to my recent cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation at the hospital. Comforting and joyful it is experiencing Rita's hospitality in the department each session, and continuing to witness her cheerful, positive demeanor with all patients. She's even helped me to my car in icy and inclement weather, due to my challenged ambulation and her fearing I may suffer a fall.
A few weeks ago, I was struggling with fluid retention, and Rita telephoned me on a Saturday (her day off) and checked on my well-being. She knew I resided alone and was concerned for my medical welfare. Subsequently, I was hospitalized for a week and underwent diuresis and then placed under Home Health Care for an additional 4 weeks. Rita continued to check on my progress and convalescence.
Recently I also witnessed Rita in a trauma situation. A gentleman "coded" while exercising. I could see her confidence, decisiveness, and calm critical thinking skills. The gentleman survived and was back at rehab the following week!
Rita Svoboda exemplifies one of the very best providers on your nursing staff. She's cognitively astute, emotionally intelligent, caring, and exhibits empathy, compassion, and selflessness! Above all, Rita exhibits passion and the love of her professional vocational calling!
