I was on the Med G service and shared a patient with Russ. Mr. G was a challenging patient who had TBI and agitation (possibly from delirium in addition to his TBI). I observed Russ with this patient on several occasions and was thoroughly impressed with the level of patience and compassion that Russ demonstrated. I almost cried when I came in one day and saw Russ showing Mr. G a picture of his wife and talking to Mr. G about her (and engaging in the valuable life review and social interaction that is SO meaningful to patients with delirium who are alone in the hospital for many days). It was a tender and touching moment that to me, truly exemplifies the immense spirit of caring that our Harborview nurses demonstrate every day that goes unwitnessed. I don't want it to go unnoticed, however, so I'm nominating Russ for a DAISY Award. Thank you, Russ, for providing such amazing care to our challenging, elderly, delirious patients!
