We would like to nominate Sarah Lavery for the DAISY award. There is not a more extraordinary nurse to nominate then this woman. Sarah is a true inspiration to anyone and everyone she comes in contact with. Sarah is kind, compassionate, and unselfish in everything she does especially when it comes to taking care of others. She is a strong advocate for her patients. Sarah is always willing to lend a hand and take on any task or assignment she is given. If GOD put someone on this earth to do his work, Sarah is the one.

Her patients absolutely love her and admire her work. She teaches childbirth education classes and her client’s have given her a 94% overall on their satisfaction surveys. They also describe Sarah as a great instructor in their comments. Special relationships are developed between Sarah and the families she teaches childbirth education to, they often request her to be their labor nurse when they come into the hospital.

Sarah is not only a nurse to her patients and their families but she is also their friend. Her soft spoken, outgoing, and warm personality give her patients and their families an extraordinary birth experience.

Last October one our co-workers went in for major abdominal surgery. Sarah not only prayed for her recovery but she came to her home check on her, to keep her company and brought food enough for her and her three children.

Most recently and this is a big one, Sarah again came to the aid of another co-worker and friend in her time of need. This co-worker is pregnant with twins and she has been in and out of the hospital on several occasions due to complications of her twin pregnancy. It has always been Sarah that has been able put her mind at ease. She has been instrumental in this woman’s difficult journey by always being able to provide emotional support and spiritual guidance to her.

Last week, early March, our co-worker was transferred from Henry Ford Hospital and sent to the University of Michigan Hospital due the nature of her delicate condition. This serious condition that she has encountered sometimes occurs in a twin pregnancy and is very dangerous. This condition could potentially be fatal for one or both of her babies.

Sarah has been there for our co-worker and didn’t think twice when our co-worker reached out to her during her time of need. Our co-worker needed someone to be there with her by her side supporting her and Sarah has been that person for her.

She has visited our co-worker almost on a daily basis. Many of these visits have been after working an 8 or 12 hour shift. She takes the time to make the long drive to the University of Michigan to be there for our co-worker and her family during this difficult time.

Sarah is an extraordinary nurse, her kindness goes above and beyond the call of duty!!!
