A month ago I left a drug addicted, abusive husband and took our 1 year old with me. I then found out that I was pregnant. I hadn't had contact with their father but he did know and so did my in-laws about baby #2. Despite knowing he was using and violent my mother in law brought my husband to the hospital after I delivered via C-section. I didn't want him here, especially while using and he did end up leaving. However, I had no way to know what was the next step or if they would try and come back. I thought my mother in law understood that I would be protecting this baby just like I have my son from him until my husband gets serious help and can pass a drug test and show he won't hurt these kids. Sarah listened to all that and more one night after they had tried to come in and she found me upset over it. She made sure I knew that it was up to me who comes in and sees us. She then made sure the other staff knew the situation. She never made me (nor did anyone else) feel like I needed to be ashamed. She just made sure I was safe with my daughter. She spent a long time each night making sure my daughter and I were okay. While I'm sure she had plenty to do, she always stopped to talk to me and ask how I was doing emotionally. She really made a stressful time feel more manageable. She is one of those people you wish you could always have in your life because they just genuinely care and you can feel that when she asks if you are okay. I could never thank her enough for helping me when I was here at night trying to figure things out and felt very alone. She is one of a kind and I pray I come across more like her in my life.
