Sarah White has been responsible for the care of a patient we can all relate to. A is a young mother who has so much to give to her family and this world. A became ill with pneumonia and was sent to SICU. Since the moment she arrived, Sarah has been involved in her care. Sarah established rapport with A's family, continuously providing them with emotional support, leading them to trust her with their loved one.
There have been multiple instances that medical staff and family believed that death was imminent for A. In each of these instances, Sarah continued to fight for more solutions by brainstorming with medical staff and advocating for A. Despite complex ventilator settings, multiple chest tubes, dialysis, and continuous monitoring of labs and x-rays, A's ability to oxygenate continued to deteriorate. Through all of this, Sarah remained diligent and watchful, proactively seeking alternate interventions. Sarah suggested that A undergo a bronchoscopy, in hopes of finding something that may be hindering the physician's attempts to sufficiently oxygenate her. Thankfully, the bronchoscopy revealed a diagnosis that gave A and her family hope for recovery. A patient this complex requires a lot of care and attention and Sarah never faltered in the care she provided to A and her family, despite how overwhelming and emotionally draining some days were. I believe that the patient and her family have benefited from having Sarah in their lives.
