Shannon started at SPUH as a high school student in the Transport Department. As she entered college she transferred to the Nursing Department as a Nursing Unit Secretary to gain more exposure in Nursing. Shannon is a hard working young woman who excels at whatever challenge comes her way. Her patients compliment her daily on the good care she renders. She graduated nursing school in 2006 and accepted an RN position on Oncology, something she has always aspired to do. As fate would have it, a year after she accepted the position, a close family member was diagnosed with cancer leaving Shannon working on the unit treating Oncology patients and dealing with the same situation at home. Shannon is an excellent nurse and was promoted to Charge Nurse in 2009. She is an asset to the unit; she is proactive in orchestrating the unit needs and is cognizant of financial constraints and flexing and overtime. She is proactive in staffing the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
Unfortunately Shannon’s family member succumbed to his illness in February 2010. As difficult as it was, Shannon refused to transfer to another unit. She continued to work as the Oncology day Charge Nurse and does it with courage and grace.
