... Sharon is getting close to retirement but she has more energy than a lot of people I know. She is amazing. She always comes to work with a smile and never stops smiling. Even during our tough shifts or when she has to take several admissions, she always has a positive attitude and keeps us smiling along with her patients. She never stops helping others and is always the first person to jump up and offer an extra pair of hands. I had several patients a couple of weeks ago tell me that she is the best nurse they have ever had.

I have seen her sit at the bedside with her patients when they were confused or agitated. We had a patient one night that didn't want to be alone and even though she wasn't caring for this patient, Sharon took a computer into the room and did her charting so the patient knew someone was there for him. This wasn't the first time I've seen her do this. She always approaches all of the patients on our unit this way.

Sharon has the biggest heart I know. Not only for our patients but for our coworkers too. She truly is one of the most compassionate people I know. She is so positive in all situations and she fills everyone's heart with laughter. A true saint.

We had a comfort care patient a couple of weeks ago and we knew the patient wasn't going to make it through the night. The husband was distraught and wanted to go home. Sharon offered him everything she could think of to make him comfortable enough to stay but he decided to leave. She made sure her patient didn't die alone. After the patient passed, she called the transplant organization as mandated. She was told to keep the patient at the hospital and not send her to the mortuary, which was the husband's wishes. She called the husband to ask him again what he wanted. He thanked her and told her he wanted his wife to be sent to the mortuary that night and that she wasn't on the donor list and he didn't want his wife's body staying here. Sharon knew right away that the husband needed to be called. She showed compassion with everything she did that night, as she always does.

Sharon is truly a godsend. If there is ever an amazing nurse, mentor and friend, it's Sharon.
