Shelia is a visionary and transformational leader. She is calm, resourceful and provides support to her teams during periods of significant and constant organizational change. She consistently displays a practical approach to problem-solving.
Her dedicated work in implementing the RN & Provider Collaborative Care Team Model in Family Health Clinic and Family Medicine is one example of her leadership skills.
This transformational work involves a change in mindset in addition to the workflow and process changes. It is a behavioral change for the care teams that requires a commitment from their hearts and minds.
The RN & Provider Collaborative Care Team Model is resulting in:
Improved patient quality outcomes.
Improved nursing and provider satisfaction with their work in Primary Care.
Healthy work cultures in Family Health Clinic and Family Medicine.
Strong collaboration within the care teams and the Family Medicine service line.
Spreading the RN & Provider Collaborative Care Team Model to Internal Medicine and Center Women's Health teams.
Thank you, Shelia, for being our "amazing" nurse leader in Primary Care.

Sheila Berra had a hard act to follow when she became nursing supervisor in the Family Health Clinic. I couldn't imagine anyone being as good as our previous supervisor. However, Sheila has done a super job and made me a believer that there is more than one great nursing supervisor in my nursing career. Sheila is in touch with the day to day job of working in the Family Health Clinic. She will listen with attention to genuine concerns or to venting. Sheila will help provide perspective and insight when asked for help. Sheila provides us with a great role model. Sheila has been such a positive person through our Epic roll out. Although Sheila us different than our previous supervisor she is great and a keeper.

Her knowledge of primary care nursing, clinic processes, and to Mayo Model of Community Care is superb. Being new to ambulatory care, Sheila very quickly became an experienced primary care nurse and leader. She is very smart and I trust that the information and guidance she provides is accurate and up to date. Her presence in Family Medicine has completely turned around staff morale and satisfaction. She has been a great addition to Family Medicine.

Sheila came in to our department like a breath of fresh air. She had no preconceived opinions of this department. She is very approachable, open, excellent listener and problem solver. She has a calm confidence about her which lowers the stress level of the staff. She has answers and if she doesn't she will get back to us promptly. Sheila does come help at a moment's notice when we need her advice or help with a difficult patient. We are a much more relaxed and happy department which helps us give the excellent care that our patients deserve.

Sheila fully supports me going back to school. She is always willing to work with me on scheduling to make sure I get my clinical hours in. She encourages us daily to learn and supports extra training. I know that no matter what my question is, either personal or work; she will greet my question with a smile. When staff has questions about patient care or process flow she finds the answer and follows up on it. She goes above and beyond for our patients and for her staff!

Sheila is unlike any supervisor I have had. She does what she says she is going to do and follows up on things when she says she will. She is very easy going and realistic when it comes to work-life balance. She is a level-headed person who is the perfect example of what an effective supervisor should be.

Sheila has restored my faith in there being good people in the world. She demonstrates care and compassion daily. She not only cares for her team she cares for her patients. She is never too busy for a question or to lend an ear when someone "needs to talk". She epitomizes the values every nurse should possess; knowledge, compassion, caring and love.
