I would like to nominate Shelly Whitney for the DAISY award. It's not just one special thing that Shelly has done that stands out. It is for who Shelly is every time she works. I have seen her be in one room, soothing a sick child, comforting the nervous parents, go into another room, and hold the hand of a very sick, elderly patient, then go into another room, where another sick patient may be complaining, and by the time she has left that room, the patient is smiling and thanking her for her care. Shelly is always positive, and always has a smile on her face. You will never hear her complain, she rarely sits and takes a break until the last patient is gone from the department. Sometimes, this is for 12 hours straight.

She is so humble, whenever someone tells her how great she is, she quietly thanks them, then will say, "I don't think I'm that great, because there is something new for me to learn everyday". This is advice that we all could take, as we all should have something new to learn from our patients and our coworkers. Shelly will also tell you that she dislikes being in charge. But, we all beg to differ. Shelly is a proven leader, she doesn't have to be in charge to be a great leader. Her calming spirit, sweet smile, positive attitude, loving heart, and her nursing knowledge/experience proves she is a great leader. She leads by example. She makes all those around her strive to be more caring and considerate caregivers. Please consider Shelly for this award. She is so deserving. She truly represents what the DAISY award stands for: awesome clinical skills, compassionate care, exemplary service and commitment to excellence.

Shelly was very kind and informative. Every time I asked a question she answered promptly. As she was doing things and giving meds, she explained exactly what was going on. When the doctor had to cut open my arm, she stayed in the room and held my hand. She is by far the BEST nurse I have ever had. This is the best hospital I have ever been to. Thank you!
