... Last week the PICU was reminded of just how lucky we are to have Sheri Fannin. Sheri was in charge again during the night shift when a critically ill patient decompensated. Sheri supported the bedside RN but also took time to stand with the parents and explain the unthinkable to the distraught parents. After the young girl had passed, Sheri then took time to talk to the siblings and allow them one last chance to say goodbye to their sister. After the family had left, Sheri used a new debriefing tool (which she designed as part of her RN 3 project) to discuss the event with the whole staff. This debriefing provided the same comfort to the staff that she had given to the family. Everyone was very upset but were able to discuss what had happened and offer feedback and support to each other. It is important to remember how much we are interwoven in all that we do.

Sheri exemplifies leadership, advocacy, integrity, collaboration, and innovation in all she does, the PICU and MUSC are lucky to have her.
