Stacy compassionately cared for D and her family. D had been admitted to CCU after collapsing at a family gathering in celebration of her 40th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the causal event and subsequent decline in health status would make any recovery a clinical impossibility. Though many CCU hands cared for D and her family, Stacy was given the honor this particular day.

D’s daughter had plans to be married in the early fall. It was to be a beautiful event and of course the mother of the bride, D, was looking forward to the day. It became evident that D would not be there. The family, bride, and groom asked about holding the ‘wedding’ at the patient’s bedside. Arrangements were made and as luck would have it, Stacy was working on ‘the day’ and graciously took the patient assignment.

It was an emotional day for all but Stacy never blinked an eye except to blink away tears. As the bride and groom said their ‘I do’s’, Stacy printed a rhythm strip of D’s heart beat. They will forever remember and know that their mother was at their wedding, and not insignificantly, how their mother felt.
