I received a call from a patient's daughter wanting to recognize Tyler Graber in some manner.
The daughter states that she has been in the grieving process. After her Father's death, she has been so consumed with her mother's care. With her first Father's Day not celebrated with her dad, she stated that her thoughts went back to the night of Thanksgiving and the impact that a nurse made with her. She said that she thinks of him often and will never forget the warmth and welcome and comfort that Tyler Graber gave her during her father's death process on ICU.
Quotes from the daughter in telling her story:
"My father was admitted the afternoon of Thanksgiving with a brain bleed that was not going to be treatable. He was admitted the afternoon, within 24 hours placed on Hospice and passed away in just a couple weeks."
The daughter stated she stayed with her father so that her mother could rest at home. Here she was at a hospital out of town and on a holiday with her father dying. With tears in her voice, she described the compassion that Tyler had for her and her father. She said he brought her blankets, toothbrush, and constantly asking if she needed anything. With heavy tears she tells me, Tyler came into the room with a plate of food that he brought to work that his mother sent with him from their Thanksgiving dinner. The daughter said that the thoughtfulness of Tyler and his sharing nature gave her a Thanksgiving meal prepared by his mother.
The daughter continued to talk to me and state that she finds herself thinking back on her Thanksgiving meal and the kind nurse that shared it with her. She said that things are getting settled now and it has been a few months since her father's death. On Father's Day, she said she instantly thought of Tyler again and vowed to herself that she was going to call and talk to management on how grateful she was for the care, but also the impact a piece of chicken and green bean casserole made with her on a holiday.
The daughter said that she will never forget this act of generosity and thoughtfulness.
